URBAN REFUGE MN & KIDS AGAINST HUNGER IN NICARAGUA

By Andy Gray

We are excited about what God is doing in Nicaragua and were so thankful to be welcomed by the people of the church. Pastor Angel’s family was a joy to stay with and they were so very kind and hospitable to us. During our exploratory trip, Angel explained the ministry to the poor they are starting through the church. Walter, a Dr. on the church plant team from Honduras worked with families in the community to identify children that are at the greatest risk of suffering from malnutrition. They are caring for young children in those families throughout the week and reaching out to the families with the Good News of Jesus. Back home in Minneapolis in March of 2008, we started a food packaging program that puts together rice, soy, vitamin enriched dried vegetables, and chicken flavoring into bags that can be shipped to needy places. The program is called Kids Against Hunger  (http://www.theurbanrefuge.com/kah). We are happy to report we were able to send 7,128 meals in June of 2008 to support the efforts in Nicaragua and we are eager to send a mission trip there in the near future to support the church in their greatest effort of meeting people’s spiritual needs through Jesus Christ.
